We rate 79 of the 85 at 5 out of 5 for difficulty, our top mark. That is not a rating we hand out often, and here it reflects vertical gain and cut-offs rather than distance alone. A 100K in this series is a mountain race, not a long flat day.
The reason to care which of these you enter is Running Stones. Finishing a World Series event earns them, and they are what feeds the lottery for the finals in Chamonix. Distance determines how many you get, so the calendar is a qualification pathway as much as a race list.
Entry is the awkward part. The bigger events fill fast and the finals run a lottery on top of the stones you have collected, so a plan that assumes you will simply enter next year is optimistic.
France, the United States and Italy hold the most events we index, but the series now reaches 35 countries, and the newer Asian and South American rounds are considerably easier to get into.
