Races in South Africa

Comrades Marathon (89 km, run since 1921) and Two Oceans (56 km) are the two most famous ultra-distance road races in the world; Cape Town also hosts the largest single-stage cycling race on the planet (the Cape Town Cycle Tour). IRONMAN African Championship in Port Elizabeth and IRONMAN 70.3 Mossel Bay anchor the triathlon side. Trail scene is led by Ultra-Trail Cape Town. Season runs September through May; expect strong fields, dramatic terrain, and travel logistics that reward a long-stay trip.
