Challenge is the main alternative to the other long-course franchise, and the practical differences matter more than the branding. Entry tends to be easier and cheaper, fields are smaller, and several of the races have kept a local character that the larger series has ironed out.
Almere-Amsterdam is the one to know. It is the oldest long-distance triathlon in Europe still running, and it has been the European Championship more than once.
We rate 34 of the 39 at 4 out of 5 for difficulty and 5 at the top mark. Spain hosts the most rounds we index, with Italy, New Zealand, Austria and Brazil behind it.
The middle distance dominance is worth planning around: if you specifically want a full distance under this banner, there are only four on our calendar, so the date rather than the venue will decide it for most people.
